The Book of You is an incredibly disturbing novel, and it scared the hell out of me. I couldn't put it down, and I probably shouldn't have been reading it right before I went to bed because it certainly didn't help me fall asleep. When I worked at a library, for years a creepy guy came in every day to blatantly stare at me and follow me around, and his behavior eventually got to the point where he would wait outside the building when he knew it was time for me to leave; he scared me enough that I kept a record of all of his stalkerish behavior, just like Clarissa does in the book. Reading this novel brought up all the fear I felt while I was in that situation and all the worries I had that his behavior would escalate to dangerous levels (luckily he finally gave up after the second time he was temporarily banned from the library). I really felt for Clarissa, and I'm so grateful that my situation never got as bad as hers did. No book has ever scared me as much as The Book of You, which shows what a great job the author did of making the story believable. I look forward to reading anything she writes in the future.
